Who receives the GoOs for the energy produced?

Guarantees of Origin for Electricity and renewable Thermal Energy are issued directly to a trader's account. The producer selects the trader's account. The trader is then free to further trade and/or debit them to an end-user account.

Any (financial) agreements on this process are mutually agreed by the trader, producer and/or end user concerned. VertiCer is not a party to this.

As far as Guarantees of Origin of Green Gas or Green Hydrogen are concerned, the issuance of a GoO is currently still done via the producer account. The producer can keep the GoOs on his own account or choose to have them issued to a trader. In this case, too, the parties involved will make their own desired arrangements.

In mid-2025, the process of issuing GoOs for Green Gas and Green Hydrogen will be aligned with the process for issuing GoOs for Electricity and renewable Thermal Energy. From then on, all GoOs will be issued on the account of the trader linked to a production installation.

To trade in GoOs, you need a trader's account, which you can apply for via our website. Please note that there are conditions as well as membership and transaction fees associated with a trading account. More information can be found here.

Renewable generation & batteries

According to Section 1 of the Electricity Act, a battery is not renewable. If the battery is within the system boundary of the renewable generation plant, the power is not renewable. In this situation, VertiCer does not issue MoUs. More information can be found in 'Downloads'.

How long are Guarantees of Origin and Certificates of Origin valid?

Guarantees of Origin and Certificates of Origin are valid for one year after the production date. Please take into account the end date of the production period (the production period may vary from country to country).
